RoboHelp

RoboHelpWriting basic and understandable instructions is essential as a technical writer. RoboHelp remains the best software program for developing help systems. I have created other help documentation using a variety of programs as well.

Projects in RoboHelp

My largest RoboHelp project to date involved totally rewriting the help files for a computer software company. The previous version had steps buried in large paragraphs of text. I eliminated much of the text to provide client with a simpler help system that uses numerical lists. A few of the original pages had to be included in the new help. Over 95% of the files were rewritten.

It should be noted that I was never formally trained on the software that I wrote the guide for. I successfully taught myself the software as I developed the help system.

The second RoboHelp example was written in my Writing with Technology class at Missouri State University. It exemplifies the basic style needed to write clear computer instructions.
